The safety file within the laboratory is a central repository of safety information for the group members. This includes general rules to follow, details of training received and risk assessments.

The following is some guidance to allow the group to maximise the impact of the safety file.

1. Some parts are filled out in red and will need to be altered to suit the group's methods or procedures.
2. Have the file located prominently so that it can found and read when required.
3. Regularly update the file when processes change or people leave.
4. Add sections into the file to suit the group's needs.
5. Ensure all new members complete and log the necessary training before going into the laboratory.

 Please share any risk assessments you may have which would benefit other groups with the health and safety office. This will allow other groups to work safely and spread best practice throughout the building.
