Chemistry NMR Facility

Please visit the main NMR facility webpages for full details.

The Department of Chemistry NMR Facility comprises 11 NMR spectrometers. 8 spectrometers are located in the basement of the Chemistry Building, 1 in the Centre for Radiochemistry Research, 1 in the Teaching Laboratory, and 1 in the Sir Robert Robinson Laboratory of Organic Chemistry. The majority of instruments can be used in either walk-up or manual mode and the availability of instruments can be checked via the status website, and more detailed bookings can be made and viewed on the booking website.

Access

To access the walk-up systems please complete this online form, then sign up for a training session on the board outside B.14 in the Chemistry Building. Access is available free of charge to all staff and students at the University of Manchester but priority is given to those in the Department of Chemistry. All users must both adhere to the NMR Submission Guidelines and complete an appropiate Risk Assessment NMR walk-up. (See also Procedures and Methods Sheets and Generic Risk Assessments on the Health and Safety pages)

Service

A staff-run service is also available catering for variable temperature, advanced, and extended acquisition experiments. Most experiment types can be run in the Chemistry NMR facility and the staff-run service will normally be able to complete these. Advice is also available on experiment selection and spectrum interpretation.

Samples can be submitted to the staff-run service via forms available in B.12, or via the online portal (only available on campus or through vpn).
